Pretty native Singaporean truffles referred to as “Nonya kuehs” are historically handmade and are a common deal with.
But automation, rising competitors and the labour-intensive nature of hand-pressing these truffles imply conventional bakeries are dwindling in numbers.
For nearly 4 generations, Gavan Sing’s family has made Nonya kuehs and they’re decided to maintain the Straits-Chinese tradition alive.
